The Swanlake Inn, Jameston, SA70 8QE: We had a really good Sunday roast here which cheered us up no end on a wet, grey day. We’ve also eaten here on weekdays. In the winter there is a roaring log fire in the bar. The service is attentive but not intrusive, and there is a wide menu of dishes including fish, curries, steaks, and burgers. During the summer months food is served from 12 noon until 21:00hrs, which is very useful. Tel: 01834 871262. Last visited: July 2017.
The Sloop Inn, Porthgain, SA62 5BN: An absolute favourite all year round. Here you’ll find a wide selection from sandwiches, baguettes and panini through burgers (the Angry Dog is a particular favourite of ours), subtly flavoured Thai-style curries, fish and seafood to belt-loosening-required Sunday roasts. Loads of seating inside and out and a roaring fire in the bar in winter. I particularly like the fact that the Sloop always has plenty of staff, so I’ve never had to wait for my food while the waitress was held up pulling a round of pints. Tel: 01348 831449. The Lawrenny Arms, Lawrenny, SA68 0PR: A great place in the summer – sit outside and watch the boats – and also in the winter – a big log fire in the bar. The food is very good, the service is efficient, and the prices are some of the most reasonable I have found here in Pembrokeshire. The menu ranges from sandwiches and snacks through fish and pasta to the more traditional Sunday roasts. If you like getting messy you can still order a Pint of Prawns here – and great fun they are too! Tel: 01646 651367. Last visited: August 2017.
Tudor Lodge, Jameston, SA70 7SS: This highly popular hotel offers food and drink to residents and non-residents alike. We tried the Sunday Roast (served all afternoon up to 5pm) in the light and airy restaurant. The meat was delicious, the vegetables plentiful, and the yorkshire puddings about as good as they get! There is plenty of space for families here, including a children’s play area outside. Tudor Lodge also has themed nights, Tuesday is Curry Night for example, which I’m sure we’ll be coming back to try. Booking is strongly recommended. Tel: 01834 871212. Last visited: July 2017.
The Old Kings Arms, Pembroke, SA71 4JS: We’ve been coming to this award winning hotel, pub and restaurant – where both residents and non-residents are welcome – since 2003, when it provided a very comfortable base for our house-hunting expeditions. Food is served in the restaurant and in the bars, where you will find a range of daily specials listed on the blackboards as well as the regular menu. If you’re planning to go for Sunday lunch in particular I strongly recommend that you book in advance. Tel: 01646 683611. Last visited: March 2016.
