Meyrick Street, Laws Street, Lewis Street and Bush Street were all developed during the 1840s, following work which had seen the creation of Clarence Street, Brewery Street and Park Street in 1827, and Melville Street and Market Street during the 1830s. Originally, Bush Street and Commercial Row were the main shopping streets in Pembroke Dock. S. J. Allen, the noted local photographer, kept his shop and business premises in Bush Street, as did J. Eastlake Thomas, a butcher.
