The small Roman Catholic community in Pembroke Dock met to worship in a house on King Street. Father Lewis, the first Catholic Priest to arrive in the town, used often to preach in the open air at the top of Pembroke Street. Father Lewis helped to raise funds to build St Mary’s Church in Meyrick Street, which was the first Roman Catholic church in the town. Building commenced in 1846 and the church opened in 1847.
