1953 A Royal Visit

Whilst touring her kingdom in celebration of her accession to the throne Queen Elizabeth II arrived in Pembroke Dock aboard the royal yacht, Britannia. Schools were closed for the day and the town celebrated, including watching a spectacular fly-past by the Sunderland Flying Boats based at RAF PD. Ironically, the Britannia was the first royal yacht not to have been built in Pembroke Dockyard.
