It was supposed to be top secret but the whispers grew and eventually, on 1 March 1979, the Western Telegraph broke the story; the Millenium Falcon was being constructed in an aircraft hangar in Pembroke Dock. The famous spaceship, which appeared in the Star Wars movies, was built by Marcon Fabrications, a local company more accustomed to building steel fabrications for the petrochemical industry. Once ready, the Falcon was dismantled and transported to Elstree Studios in pieces. It was reassembled on the film set.
